Tree clearing near Bala Falls has begun for proposed hydroelectric dam

Swift River Energy has begun work on crown land to clear space for a proposed hydroelectric dam.  This from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry representative Jolanta Kowalski, who says tree clearing has begun to set up a gated fence to secure the site.  She says the ministry had provided authorization to the company back in May to use Margaret Burgess Park as a staging area for construction.   This construction will include occupying the land to store materials and construction of dams and intake and water channel structures for the facility.  The staging work is expected to take about five business days.
