Municipal elections fast approaching

If you’re thinking about running for municipal politics in 2014, there are some steps you need to follow.  Anyone thinking about running for mayor, reeve, or councillor in the Town of Parry Sound, the Archipelago, Carling, McDougall, McKellar, Seguin, or Whitestone must submit a notice of nomination to the appropriate township clerk.  Candidates must be 18 years or older, a Canadian citizen, eligible to vote, and a resident of the township you plan to run in, or a land owner or tenant in that municipality, or the spouse of such a person.  The Association of Municipalities on Ontario is offering a low cost course for anyone wishing to run for council to give them information on what to expect as a municipal leader.  For more information on the AMO course visit the Town of Parry Sound’s website and for nomination forms, visit your municipality’s website.
