Local athletes were successful in the first XTERRA series race held locally.  Over the weekend, the Georgian Nordic Ski Club hosted XTERRA Parry Sound, “Into the Wild”, an off-road triathlon that is part of the global XTERRA series.  There was trail running, duathlon, and triathlon options with the full triathlon including a 1500m swim at McDougall’s Nine Mile Lake, followed by a 24km mountain bike and a 9km trail run.  Jeremy Hobourn and Heather Smith both won silver in their age groups in the sprint triathlon, while Victoria Smith won a bronze in her age group in the full triathlon.  The race was brought to Parry Sound by Xterra Element Racing and Get Outdoors Parry Sound and supported by Trysport and was a great success.  Planning for 2016 is already underway.
