Radiothon in support of the West Parry Sound Health Centre today

The West Parry Sound Health Centre Foundation wants you to donate today.  All day, you can call into the radio station at 705-746-4291 to make a pledge towards getting a new Paediatric Attachment for the Glidescope and Large Power Equipment for Orthopaedic Surgery.  The first piece of equipment is an essential piece of equipment used in the resuscitation of children.  During a trauma or an emergency where a child in unable to breath on their own the team uses this Glidescope to intubate the child. This allows for a safe transfer, with airway protection, while the child is on route to a Paediatric Specialty Centre. Currently the Health Centre has one in the operating room but none in Emergency. The medical staff needs one in Emergency as well as in the OR to meet paediatric trauma needs.  The second piece is used for Orthopaedic Surgery including Total Knees and Hips, Hip Fractures and other trauma cases.  The Tray has Drills and saws, much like what you would have at home in your workshop. The West Parry Sound Health Centre is fortunate to have an Orthopaedic Surgeon who completes approximately 200 Total Joints a year.  On July 20th, the battery cracked in our old set meaning it can’t be sterilized and is moved out of service. The hospital is trying to negotiate a loaner to put into service to keep up with the urgent and elective surgery needs.  In order to get both pieces of equipment, the Foundation and radio station are asking listeners to raise about $25,000.  The Auxiliary of the West Parry Sound Health Centre will also be at Sobey’s, No Frills, Home Hardware and Canadian Tire today for tag day.
