Our MP announces big funding for a company to expand high-speed internet access across Northeastern Ontario

Our region is getting a major financial boost to bring high-speed internet access at an affordable cost.  Yesterday afternoon in Port Carling, Parry Sound-Muskoka MP Tony Clement announced a Federal Government contribution of $8.4 million to Xplornet Communications who is providing its own capital for two projects covering rural areas of North Eastern Ontario.  Clement explains where the funding is coming from.

Clement details how the project will impact Parry Sound-Muskoka residents.

The announcement of funding going to Xplornet means that the request from West Parry Sound SMART Community was denied in this round of funding, but Clement says that he is continuing to try to work with the organization.

Manger of Accounts for Xplornet Don Ticknor says the project is expected to get started early next year and be complete by July of 2017.
