Off-Road Vehicle users reminded to check local by-laws before riding on municipal roads

OPP reminds off-road enthusiasts to know local by-laws before riding your ORV on local roadways.  Ontario passed legislation that took effect on Canada Day to allow two-up ATVs, UTVs and Side-by-Sides to ride on provincial highways, but police in Northeastern Ontario remind riders that not all municipalities allow off-road vehicles on their roads.  North East Region Traffic Inspector Mark Andrews says it is the operator’s responsibility to consult the Highway Traffic Act and to contact the municipality to confirm certain off-road vehicles are permitted on area roadways.  In West Parry Sound, all municipalities allow off-road vehicles on select roads except the Town of Parry Sound.  For more detailed information on legal requirements for ORV and ATV use, refer to the Off Road Vehicles Act (ORVA) and the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), or visit www.e-laws.gov.on.ca
