Salvation Army opening community garden to provide more healthy foods

The Salvation Army is providing more healthy options from their food bank.  Parry Sound Community Ministries Officer Lt. Justin Gleadall says they have made a strong push in the last 12 months to provide additional fresh food options through the Food Bank as well as the Good Food Box and the Community Kitchens.  In support of this new vision, The Salvation Army is transforming a portion of its property on Gibson Street into a community garden to provide fresh produce to the Food Bank and Community Kitchens and act as a teaching opportunity for people of all ages in Parry Sound to learn gardening skills.  The garden will be launched with a seed planting event on April 20th at 12:30pm and Gleadall says   Glenda Clayton from the Biosphere Reserve will there to teach about gardening and everyone will get a seed pot to take home for their own garden.  There will also be a lunch provided and served by the Community Kitchen group in conjunction with the launch of their garden.
