Phone scam going around asking about Visa cards

Residents are being warned of a phone scam circulating the Parry Sound area.  On Tuesday, West Parry Sound OPP got a call from a resident who had been called by someone claiming to be from Visa who knew her name, address, where she banked, and her credit card expiry date, but when they read her credit card number it was wrong.  Police believe that some victims would give the corrected credit card number and the caller would use it for their financial gain.  Officers say to be extremely cautious if a caller asks you for personal information, has something special to offer, or asks you to act now.  For more information about the many types of fraud and what to watch for, you can contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre 1-888-495-8501 or on the web at www.antifraudcentre.ca as well as the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
