Pedalling for Parkinson’s event kicks off Friday

Hundreds of cyclists are hitting the road this weekend for Pedalling for Parkinson’s.

This year’s event will take place Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with routes between 40 and 130 km.

The ride will start at 7:30 am each day from Canadore College’s Parry Campus. Cyclists will be on the road until 1 or 2 pm.

Event organizer Peter Istvan says that the latest you can expect riders to still be on the road is on Saturday, which is when the longest route is going to be ridden.

He says event participants are being told to be careful along the route, and to stay out of the way of vehicles. He also asks drivers to be mindful of cyclists taking part in the event.

This year’s Pedalling for Parkinson’s is set to be the biggest one yet. Istvan says they’re on track to have 250 riders for the Saturday run.

All proceeds raised by the bike ride will go to Pedalling for Parkinson’s research grant. This year’s event has raised over $190,000 for Parkinson’s research.
