2017 Ontario budget announced

Big investments into education and healthcare are the highlights of the province’s 2017 budget .

The budget, announced yesterday, promises a $465 million healthcare program for people under the age of 25 which would cover the cost of medications for most common conditions.

It also includes new rules for OSAP, opening up the chance for free tuition to 200 000 students in the province.

The Liberal government is calling this year’s budget balanced, but Parry Sound-Muskoka MPP Norm Miller disagrees.

He also criticized the budget for not keeping Northern Ontario in mind.

The stalled Ring of Fire mining project, which he brought up last week to Queen’s Park, didn’t make it into the budget.
