It’s now easier for people to get to the Parry Sound area by plane

CANPASS has returned to the Parry Sound Area Municipal Airport.  Parry Sound-Muskoka MP Tony Clement was at the airport on Friday to deliver the certificate to the airport that will allow them to accept planes directly from outside the country.  The program was suspended after 9/11 for security reasons and Clement says it’s helpful to get it back with the cottage season upon us.

Clement says it will also help local businesses.

He says he worked on it for at least six years along with Airport Manager Neil Pirie, Airport Commission member Bob Fisher, and the late Doug Sainsbury, who chaired the Commission.

CANPASS is a suite of Canada Border Services Agency programs in place to streamline customs and immigration clearance for pre-screened, low-risk, frequent travelers.  Participants of the program can avoid line-ups at the regular primary inspection line at international airports such as Calgary, Halifax, Montréal, Toronto, Vancouver, and Winnipeg.
