A documentary making the connection between environment and health has sparked local mission

A mission to shed new light on the link between human health and plastic in the world’s waterways has come locally.  The Directors of a documentary called ‘eXXpedition’ will be attending a special screening on May 3rd at Canadore College as part of the Films That Make You Think series.  They’ll present their 40-minute film documenting the journey of 14 women who sailed across the Atlantic Ocean on a scientific research mission to make the unseen seen – from the plastics in our oceans to the toxins in our bodies.  To continue their mission, research crews from Canada and the USA are sailing together on August 20th on all five of the Great Lakes, Lake St Clair and the St Lawrence River to shed new light on the link between human health and plastic in the world’s waterways.  The mission encourages everyone and anyone to take part in whatever way they can, wherever they can by sampling a body of water in the Great Lakes system on that day.  The Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve encourages individuals and associations to join this coordinated effort by registering online to receive a water sampling kit, and to return it for free analysis.  Registration forms for the event on August 20th can be found at www.eXXpedition.com/greatlakes2016.
