Police warning residents and businesses of fraud scams

A Seguin business has been the target of a scam.  West Parry Sound OPP says the local business got an order for a very large purchase and then received a cheque from the company worth more than what was agreed upon.  The company that sent the cheque asked for the extra amount to be deposited into an account in Dubai, but instead, the local business turned over the extra money to the bank.  A police investigation revealed the company name and money draft was from an actual company ion Dubai, but determined the money draft was a fake showing multiple slight differences.  Officers say this local business acted early so no fraud could take place and encourage the public and all businesses to be cautious and suspicious of spontaneous communication asking for money.  If you suspect a possible fraud, contact your bank branch or visit the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre’s website at www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca or by calling 1-888-495-8501.
